Wilderness Kids (K-2)

The ever popular Wilderness Kids is back, where your child will develop a deeper relationship with nature while uncovering the secrets in Lachat's abundant land. Each week will focus on a new topic that helps children to feel at home in the great outdoors, including survival skills like firecraft and shelter-building, using nature’s healing properties to make medicinal plant salves, finding the beauty all around us to make dyes from flowers and berries, and more!  

Our skilled nature instructor, Alexis Slavina, teaches students valuable life skills that fortify character, inspire creativity, and encourage independence through child-led activities that focus more on the experience than the outcome.  Every week will provide an opportunity to make observations and learn about plants and wildlife, and small group sizes ensure safety and high quality experiences. 

This program is drop-off and will take place outdoors and in the farm's unheated barn, so dress your child in clothing appropriate for the weather and for exploring the property.  Don’t forget to pack a snack and a water bottle, and choose “Lachat Town Farm - Bus 6” in Dismissal Manager if you plan to take advantage of bus transportation from Hurlbutt to the farm.
